When I was going through all of the photos I took in Yellowstone last week they reminded me of postcards. I was blown away by the varying topography and picturesque views, it really was incredible. We had a few comical close run-ins with some bison, enjoyed spying on a grizzly bear (from the comfort of the truck) and admired, but quickly ran through, the stinky geysers. Unfortunately, we planned this cross country drive very last minute and couldn't get a hotel reservation for more than one night in Yellowstone. It was such a shame to only be there for a little over 24 hours, but we still managed to get a great glimpse at the beauty and are anxious to visit again for an extended period of time. The road trip was a success and since I'm not the biggest fan of flying to begin with (I have a fear of heights) I actually wish we were driving back on the return trip to New York as well!
Stopping to take it all in.
The lovely smell of sulfur oozing out of a geyser.
Have you ever driven cross country before and if so, what route did you take?

We drove out through the middle of the country (Denver, Kansas City, St Louis, etc.) and we drove back the southern route (Santa Fe, San Antonio, New Orleans, etc.). The southern route was my favorite, except Texas takes soooo long to get through. It was my first time in Santa Fe and New Orleans and I loved them both!
That looks amazing! I would love to visit and definitely spy on a grizzly bear myself!!! hope you had a great time! xo, Alma

Yellowstone looks amazing! I have been loving the glimpses of roadtrip you've been giving on Instagram. I am always amazed by the size and scale of America. I did a trip cross country from New York to LA on the greyhound buses over 3 months, when I was 18. Still didn't get to see everything I wanted! Have an amazing stay xxx
I've driven cross country 3 times (it's a life goal to go to all 50 states).
1. San Diego, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Albuquerque, Boulder, Nebraska, Mount Rushmore, Badlands
2. the typical way to get from NJ to CA quickly - PA, WV, KY, OK, TX, NM, AZ
3. a more southern route from Los Angeles, Arizona, Texas by way of Austin, AR, TN, VA, MD
I'd really like to visit the pacific northwest next! I'm jealous you made it to Yellowstone - it's on my list! looks amazing

Oh wow, it really does look like a postcard, amazing! It's one of those things you see later in a photo and ask yourself "have I really seen this?" haha, at least it happens to me!
I'm from Portugal, but I have what we call, The American Dream haha, I would love to live anywhere in California (I have family in Santa Clarita) and I wish someday to visit all possible States of America, it's in my bucket list! :)

Stunning photos! As a military brat I have made many road trips all over the US. We were always on a deadline so, like you, could not linger in our favorite spots. In a way that is bad, but it makes you really appreciate the brief glimpses you do get.
Wow, it is so gorgeous!!!! I really need to do a cross country trip! It would be amazing :D

I've never driven cross country, although I've been on a road trip up a pretty good piece of the East coast, from South Georgia to New Jersey, making stops in Asheville, NC; Washington, D.C.; and Philly. Really great trip.
I've never done a trip cross country, but you definitely inspire me to try to actually make this dream of mine come true! Yellowstone looks gorgeous. Thank you so much for sharing!

These are absolutely amazing photos! Great post!
Absolutely! From Texas to Seattle via Idaho (which was so gorgeous)and from Texas to Washington DC, which was a 24-hour, nonstop slog in a UHaul. But I did stop at an Elvis cafe for a peanut-butter and banana sandwich, so all good.
That waterfall is too beautiful!
A cross country road trip is definitely on my bucket list! I've also wanted to drive up the Pacific Coast! Great photos!
I grew up going to National Parks all the time- and Yellowstone never ceased to amaze me. You captured it so beautifully!

Amazing photos!! I am now even more looking forward to crossing the US next year. And your route looks pretty much what I plan to do. How long were you on the road? I still have to count in the way from Europe over - which makes me loose two days.xo, Christina

Keep calm and carry lipstick.
I think you topography?
I think you mean* topography.
@Anonymous - thank you so much, oops!! Yes *topography. x
Spontaneous trips are the best! When I was in 3rd grade, my mother picked me up from the last day of school before summer break, and we spent 2 months road-tripping through the states West of Arkansas. I was probably too young at the time to appreciate it, but looking back at the pictures now... it was pretty awesome!

Hey beautiful!
I went west for on Teens Westward Bound..You go 23 places in 23 days with 80 other people....AHHMAZING. It's so weird seeing your pictures because I am like I have been there!! I hope you had an amazing time!
xo, Emma!
@emma Kepley - Wow, Teens Westward Bound sounds like such a cool trip! ;)
@Jessica - Oh that sounds like such a blast and fun surprise!! Great memories with your mom I'm sure. ;)
I drove across country with my family from Florida back home to Seattle many years ago, and it remains one of my fondest memories, but more relevant to this post, we took another trip once driving through Idaho, Montana, and the Dakotas to Mount Rushmore, then came back through Wyoming, Yellowstone, and the Badlands.
I remember having to stop and wait on the freeway for the bison to get off the road - on the freeway! And you can't do anything... just wait for them to move off the road. We were waiting for an hour!
It is my favorite road trip I've taken, and possibly vacation in general! I want to go back so badly before moving permanently to the east coast.
You're a lucky girl to have been able to go!

Gorgeous photos! When I was 19, my boyfriend at the time and I drove from South Carolina to California. Mostly along the 10 freeway. It was an amazing trip!

These pictures are AMAZING, Alicia! Wow!
The second one is my fave, but ultimately it's hard to choose.
Beautiful!
I love Yellowstone! I took a cross country trip last month and we stopped there. I will say it is the only place I would break my "no camping" rule for
I have always wanted to visit Yellowstone, but have never been! Your photos are lovely- I bet this is the best time of year to visit.
This is beautiful. It's definitely on my to visit list.
