DIY Aurelie Bidermann Inspired Chain Necklace

DIY Aurelie Bidermann Inspired Chain Necklace

DIY Aurelie Bidermann Necklace (designer version pictured in right hand corner of Harper's Bazaar).

I've been meaning to make an Aurelie Bidermann-esque chain necklace for sometime now and when I finally sat down to make it it took me less than 30 minutes (my kind of DIY). I chose a neutral colored embroidery thread but a pastel or a bold neon color would also be fun for springNote: The Aurelie Bidermann necklaces are more of a braided thread and chain necklace but this is a simplified (aka my own) variation of the designer version.

You'll need: chain (I bought mine at a local hardware store), embroidery thread, wire cutters, pliers and clasp.

Step 1: Cut and measure chain / embroidery thread (I used 4 strands of thread but you can adjust depending on the thickness of your chain). Knot the thread to your clasp and attach to the end of your chain using pliers.

Step 2: Pull your thread through the chain and continue to wrap over under for the length of the chain (keep the chain laying flat as you go).

Step 3: When you get to the end of your chain knot off your thread and cut. Attach your clasp with pliers and you're finished. Aurelie Bidermann necklaces have a cool gold paper clip clasp which you could also totally DIY by spray painting a paper clip gold. Easy peasey, right?!

Love the mixed media. I might weave in some neon string, too!

I have been itching for a new DIY - can't wait to try making this necklace this weekend! Which hardware store did you get the chain at, at a home depot or lowes?

@Samantha - I bought mine at a small local hardware store but Lowes or Home Depot will definitely have chain. You can also try a local jewelry store!
