Shopping Diet

DVF Dress. H&M Jacket. Zara Pumps. Alexander Wang Bag. House of Harlow Sunglasses.

I gave up shopping for Lent this year; quite the smart decision on my part. Thankfully I purchased a few goodies via Shopbop the week prior including a flirty dress to wear to my upcoming bachelorette party as well as this Diane von Furstenberg maxi dress, to help me get through those 40 days. My 5 foot, 1 inch frame made searching for a maxi skirt that fit in the length rather difficult. When I spotted this dress on Shopbop and noticed it hit the model mid-calf, I knew it would be the perfect maxi on me. The geometric shapes and tassel belt give this silk chiffon number just the right amount of edge.

Gorgeous dress! I am 5'3" and I have been hesitant about a maxi dress, but you have inspired me, I might be able to pull it off.

I LOVE that dress! It's gorgeous! I started wearing maxi dresses like a year ago and I like them, even though in 4 inch heels, I still have a train!

I'm normally not a huge fan of maxi dresses - I feel ridiculous walking around Illinois in something that would be more appropriate in St. Tropez, but yours is so perfect! Cute but not overpowering!

Funny! I would never have thought by your photos that you were only 5'1"! I thought about giving up shopping for lent too...and I still might given that I haven't bought anything since last Tuesday. It would be a good exercise since I have a wedding to prepare for too! :)

Five foot neat here, what a great find, length is always always always my very annoying issue. Who has time to alter?

You're so brave to give up shopping for lent!! Absolutely love the maxi dress you found before Ash Wednesday! The pattern is killer and the length looks perfect! Love the electric blue nail too. Mind my asking the color?

ELIZABETH said...

What a sacrifice! I'm assuming that means you're giving up shopping and buying, but not shopping just to look? Can't wait to see the new bachelorette party dress.

Alicia said...

@His and Hers - My nail polish is by OPI: Ogre-The Top Blue

@Elizbeth - yes, of course I can still shop to look :)

Valerie said...

I love the print of this dress and the tassels are so cool. I'm so impressed that you're giving up shopping for lent! I thought about doing that and then bought an Ella Moss maxi dress (without even thinking about it) on Ash Wednesday. Whoops! So obviously it didn't work out. How exciting that your bachelorette party is coming up soon!

That is soooo smart! I'm 5 foot 1 too and I would never consider giving maxi dress a try because it would just drown me. But I just need to find dresses that fit other people knee length, haha. Love it! Cute prints on that dress too.

Hahah, I'm always on a no shopping ban, but I never last. Without a doubt my biggest weakness. But I'll tell you, if there is anything to break that ban, it's this dress. Absolutely beautiful! And I love it with the black leather jacket. You're so adorable.

Loren said...

What a fantastic dress! It's beautiful :)

Margot said...

You look lovely! I think that dress is so great as a maxi the pattern is perfection. As for that shopping ban, I feel your pain. I am currently on one of those and it is not going so well...I cheated on gilt this morning, woops. I guess there is always tomorrow to start fresh :)

Your dress is fantastic! I am 5'2" and tried a few maxi dresses but was convinced I couldn't pull them off but you have me reconsidering...

WendyB said...

I love maxis! I think there's a maxi for everyone. People always say they're too short, but I say if you'd wear a floor-length wedding gown, then you can do a maxi.

Alicia said...

@WendyB - I agree, I think maxi's are for everyone as well! You just have to find the right length for your height.
