DVF Dress. H&M Jacket. Zara Pumps. Alexander Wang Bag. House of Harlow Sunglasses.
I gave up shopping for Lent this year; quite the smart decision on my part. Thankfully I purchased a few goodies via Shopbop the week prior including a flirty dress to wear to my upcoming bachelorette party as well as this Diane von Furstenberg maxi dress, to help me get through those 40 days. My 5 foot, 1 inch frame made searching for a maxi skirt that fit in the length rather difficult. When I spotted this dress on Shopbop and noticed it hit the model mid-calf, I knew it would be the perfect maxi on me. The geometric shapes and tassel belt give this silk chiffon number just the right amount of edge.

That is such a great print. I am looking for the perfect maxi dress myself. Hope you'll be able to survive the 40 days without shopping!

I adore this dress and it looks particularly lovely on you, alicia! super cute. here's hoping these 40 days go fast for both of us!!
Oh my, LOVE this look! You look amazing and I'm loving the DVF maxi with the leather jacket.
Gorgeous dress! I am 5'3" and I have been hesitant about a maxi dress, but you have inspired me, I might be able to pull it off.
I LOVE that dress! It's gorgeous! I started wearing maxi dresses like a year ago and I like them, even though in 4 inch heels, I still have a train!

So cute! I'm a 5'2"-er so you're inspiration for the rest of us pint sized gals!
You look so gorgeous as always! I love that dress on you, the colors look fab with your skintone + hair color! Also, the hint of blue nailpolish is perfect :)
I don't think I could give up shopping! You are so strong! :)
LOVE this look. The leather moto jacket and this DVF maxi dress is brilliant. Love the print on the dress. And those nails are so fun!
This is definitely the type of diet I should go on, love love your bag! It has been on my list for so long, and not getting it any sooner, maybe if I shop diet I could! ... Great way to style the maxi!

I'm normally not a huge fan of maxi dresses - I feel ridiculous walking around Illinois in something that would be more appropriate in St. Tropez, but yours is so perfect! Cute but not overpowering!
Ahhh I love that dress on you!!!
great dress, love the geometric print. this jacket too is fantastic and from Hennies, what a score.
Funny! I would never have thought by your photos that you were only 5'1"! I thought about giving up shopping for lent too...and I still might given that I haven't bought anything since last Tuesday. It would be a good exercise since I have a wedding to prepare for too! :)

That dress is so cute! I love it!
Five foot neat here, what a great find, length is always always always my very annoying issue. Who has time to alter?
Such a great maxi. Love how you mixed feminine and tough pieces.
Amazing as usual!

Ooh I always thought you were taller than that! I'll have to think about that when searching for my own maxi :D
I wouldn't be able to give up shopping for Lent, but I did think about it XD

Alicia that is an impressive sacrifice :) Good luck!

Good one! I gave up reality TV. I wrote a blog pot on it, too. It's called 'Tis the Season. Your blog is wonderful!
Ali
What a good this to give up! I'm kind of sad that we won't be able to have a shopping date for awhile :(
I love that you're giving up shopping for Lent (the better for honeymoon savings!) and that you splurged before! This dress is adorable!
@Caitlin, I can still go with you and look!! :)
You are so good! I need to save some pennies as well on the shopping front.
You're so brave to give up shopping for lent!! Absolutely love the maxi dress you found before Ash Wednesday! The pattern is killer and the length looks perfect! Love the electric blue nail too. Mind my asking the color?
What a sacrifice! I'm assuming that means you're giving up shopping and buying, but not shopping just to look? Can't wait to see the new bachelorette party dress.
@His and Hers - My nail polish is by OPI: Ogre-The Top Blue
@Elizbeth - yes, of course I can still shop to look :)
I love the print of this dress and the tassels are so cool. I'm so impressed that you're giving up shopping for lent! I thought about doing that and then bought an Ella Moss maxi dress (without even thinking about it) on Ash Wednesday. Whoops! So obviously it didn't work out. How exciting that your bachelorette party is coming up soon!
OMG. I love your blog. My name's Anna, I'm a stylist and visual merchandiser in LA. I'm 23 years old and moved to California after graduating back in south with a degree in visual merchandiser. I've been lucky enough since moving out here to work with some of LA's most respected designers. I'd love if you visited my new blog for multiple posts a day on all things fashion. I'd love the support. I'm following you, I hope you'll do the same. Thanks so much.

This dress is amazing on you A! Perfect length and the tassels are such a perfect touch. I commend you for giving up shopping! xx
That is soooo smart! I'm 5 foot 1 too and I would never consider giving maxi dress a try because it would just drown me. But I just need to find dresses that fit other people knee length, haha. Love it! Cute prints on that dress too.
You're standing on a street 2 blocks from my childhood home! That made me really happy :) You also look super cute- great contrasting hard and soft look.

@NewYorkCliche - aw, how fun! I love Nob Hill! what a gorgeous neighorhood to grow up in!
Its great to know that there really are maxi dresses out there for us short girls! Thanks for the heads up!

I'm giving up shopping for Lent as well. Love this skirt-to-dress idea, such a smart move for us petite women!
As a fellow short girl, I so appreciate that you found this maxi dress! And it looks great! Good luck with the no shopping :)
this dress is gorgeous. Definitely a great purchase.

Hahah, I'm always on a no shopping ban, but I never last. Without a doubt my biggest weakness. But I'll tell you, if there is anything to break that ban, it's this dress. Absolutely beautiful! And I love it with the black leather jacket. You're so adorable.
What a fantastic dress! It's beautiful :)
You look lovely! I think that dress is so great as a maxi the pattern is perfection. As for that shopping ban, I feel your pain. I am currently on one of those and it is not going so well...I cheated on gilt this morning, woops. I guess there is always tomorrow to start fresh :)

Your dress is fantastic! I am 5'2" and tried a few maxi dresses but was convinced I couldn't pull them off but you have me reconsidering...
I love maxis! I think there's a maxi for everyone. People always say they're too short, but I say if you'd wear a floor-length wedding gown, then you can do a maxi.
@WendyB - I agree, I think maxi's are for everyone as well! You just have to find the right length for your height.
i have no idea how i missed this post, but i LOVE that dress and am so glad you snatched it up before your shopping hiatus!
Good luck on the no shopping! That DVF dress is so pretty--I can see how what might get a person through. :)
