Monday night I had an unusual craving to bake a cherry pie. This was particularly odd because (one) I'm not a huge pie fan and (two) I've never baked pie. None the less I purchased the necessary ingredients (including vanilla bean ice cream) and pitted 2 pounds of fresh cherries by hand. I'm pretty sure my fingers will be stained all week long but the outcome was completely worth it!
Cherry pie always reminds me of my Dad - it's his favorite.
What's your favorite kind of pie?

way to go! still haven't baked a pie but it's on my list!
That's a good looking pie especially for being your first! Cherry pie is actually one of my faves. Love the tartness. Here's a tip, don't put egg wash on the edges of the crust. They always burn!
okay that was your first attempt? if you hand made that crust you will find me lying out in the street beneath a wheel.
cherry pie on a first attempt is exceptional. all that pitting and such? you go girl!

What an excellent job!! High fives for making a gorgeous looking pie on your first attempt. :)
Apple is my favorite (and reminds me of my grandma), but cherry sounds like it would be really good.

Apple Pie although I love the crust more than any kind of filling.

How in the world did you make a successful crust? I love all things pie, making them, eating them...but I cannot for the life of me make a crust!

Alicia...I can't believe you pitted all of those cherries!!! That's a lot of work! Amazing job on your first attempt! I'm super impressed!
Cherry is my Dad's favorite too! Totally reminds me of him as well! I'm not a big "pie person" either, but it's my Mom's favorite dessert! She'd be happy eating pie everyday if she didn't have to worry about the extra lbs! When and if I eat pie, I usually go for banana cream, but I do like apple pie a la mode too.

Impressive, Leash! That looks sooo yummy!
Apple. So are you going to make one for me? The cherry pie looks delicious. Your Dad would love it.
Impressive!!
Looks great! I bought a bunch of cherries yesterday, they're so good right now. Maybe I'll use the extras to make a pie.

This looks amazing, Alicia! For never before making a pie, you sure did a great job on this. I was never a big fan of pie until I met my husband who's obsessed with it and now I crave it once in a while too. My favorites are apple and blueberry. And I completely agree that vanilla ice cream is an essential ingredient when it comes to pie.
